Wez Cousins’ Course Report - 7th June 09
by Sensei Keith Henson
The course officially started around 12 o clock on the 6th when Wez, Mark and Brian arrived at my house hungry, and were duly fed by my wife Kate. We then decamped to the Bear Family household to visit our friend Dave who, unfortunately, was nursing a broken ankle from the previous nights judo session. A swift lesson in fine wine tasting ensued, with Mark taking the lead roll. Five bottles later it was time to leave for the local Cider house where once again Mark led the session demonstrating some good solid technique in cider swilling. Thanks go to the Bear Family who very kindly put up the weary travelers that night.
Hangovers in tow Sunday lunchtime saw everyone on the mat and ready for the real task (yes believe it or not we did some Judo too) the course was very well supported by local judoka from Shidokai as well as some hard working judoka from Nottinghamshire and a reunion of Mayland Judo Club in the shape of all three Green brother who came from Cardiff, London and Essex to support Wez.
In total £451 was raised with just mat fees and a raffle and once the room hire was taken out £401 was handed over to Wez along with a Magnum of Champagne to help celebrate his fantastic achievement.
I would like to thank everyone who attended and would highly recommend any judoka asking Wez to go to their dojo; he is not only a fantastic fighter but a great coach too. All of my students want him and Mark to come and live here so they can teach them every week!
Again from a very proud old Sensei a big thank you to everyone who came and help Wez out.
